The Order's Provisions for Parenting Time Must be Specific
The parenting time provisions of your court order cannot be enforced by the friend of the court unless the provisions are specific.
Specific means that a person reading the order can understand the parenting time schedule without having to ask someone else to read and explain it.
The following provisions are not specific enough for the friend of the court to enforce:
- Parenting time "as the parties agree."
- A parent has "reasonable rights of parenting time."
If the parenting time provisions of your court order are not specific and you and the other parent disagree over what they mean, you can ask the court to modify your court order or you can mediate the dispute.
For an example of a specific schedule, see the
Michigan Parenting Time Guideline.
