How long do I have to wait for the other parent to show up?

Usually 30 minutes unless there’s an emergency or prior notification. But, think of it from your child’s perspective. Try to wait as long as you can because your child is expecting to see the other parent.

Do I have to let my child go on vacation out of state with the other parent?

Yes. Parents may take children on vacations out of state of Michigan, but they cannot move the child’s residence out of state without the court’s approval.

I’m not receiving child support payments. Do I have to send my child for parenting time?

Yes. Your child has a right to both parenting time and support. These are separate issues.

There’s a warrant out for the other parent for not paying child support. Do I have to send my child for parenting time?

Yes. You must obey the court order for parenting time. Other civil actions for non-payment of child support do not affect the other parent’s right to parenting time.
